As Early Career Ocean Professionals (ECOPs) are interested to engage in the marine science-policy discussions, the European Marine Board Ambassadors are organizing a 2-day EMB ECOP Network Forum to provide both training and a space for intergenerational dialogue between EMB ECOPs and European policy makers, experts, as well as senior scientists.The Forum is planned to take place back-to-back with the EurOCEAN conference 2023 in Vigo, so attending ECOPs can also take advantage of this major marine science-policy conferences in Europe after the forum.
High-Level Panel on Plastic Governance: roadmap for the upcoming decade

This High-Level Panel will be a platform for the plastic industry, the scientific community, intergovernmental organizations, and civil society to come together and discuss the multifaceted issue of plastic pollution, setting the base for the challenges of the next decade. The focus is on what various actors in Europe, including industry, society, and policymakers, are accomplishing to tackle this complex problem. Moreover, the HL Panel will highlight the ambitious research conducted under the LabPlas project, addressing key aspects of plastics in ecosystems, such as their sources, biodegradability, ecotoxicology, and environmental assessment. Intended to be a space of dialogue, this HL panel aims to foster collaboration, synergy, and coordinated actions among stakeholders toward achieving the goal of zero plastic pollution by 2050, as outlined in the recent EU's Zero Pollution Action Plan.

MBON-Europe: Marine Biodiversity Observation Network for Europe Meeting

The Marine Biodiversity Observation Network for Europe (MBON Europe) is a Long-Term Scientific Working Group funded by EuroMarine. Its main objective is to spearhead coordination of active monitoring of marine biodiversity by organisations in Europe. Long term time series are essential to recognise and understand trends that may be due to natural or human activities, especially climate change. MBON Europe is working on formalising coordination between organisations through Memoranda of Understanding (MoU), collating information on what monitoring is being done and how, discussing how to harmonise methods, facilitating data publication, synthesising the current situation, and developing a strategy for improved coordination. Join us at the MBON-Europe Meeting, on the 10th of October, to learn more about our activities and results and how you can join and contribute to this important topic.

Visit the Nautilus and discover life below water! The port marks a meeting point between marine and terrestrial environments. Under water there is a rich ecosystem of great biological value and a sustainable port must make its activity compatible with nature. The Nautilus submarine observatory offers opportunities to learn about life underwater in ports environment and is a unique experience of witnessing first-hand the development of biodiversity on a new ecological type of concrete (ECOncrete). The Nautilus is part of the Living Ports project, which combines conservation, research and unique access to nature-inclusive infrastructure.

The festive start of the construction of the new Dutch ocean-going research vessel, the RV Anna Weber-van Bosse will take place at Shipyards Astilleros Armon in Vigo, which is less than 15-minute walking from congress location. A traditional coin will be welded onto the keel beam 'for good luck' in the presence of representatives of NIOZ Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research, NWO (the Dutch Scientific Board), the shipyard, crew, and guests.
